Minimum wage to increase from 1 march

PRETORIA - The national minimum wage will increase by R1,21c per hour from 1 March. 

Minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana Meth, gazetted the increases on Tuesday.

The minimum wage shifts from R27,58c to R28,79c per hour, equating to an approximately 4,4 percent increase.

The new minimum wage sets a new baseline across all sectors, including for farm workers and domestic workers.

In a statement, Agri SA says it recognises the National Minimum Wage Commission took a balanced approach to safeguard workers and consider the sustainability of the sector.

There are however exceptions for workers employed on Expanded Public Works and those with learnership agreements.
