NERSA approves energy projects worth R52bn

JOHANNESBURG - Nersa has given the green light to 111 new energy-generation facilities in the first quarter of the 2025/26 financial year.

This adds nearly 2000 megawatts to the grid, with investments topping R51.9 billion.

Most of the projects are solar PV, highlighting the shift toward renewables.

The Western Cape led in capacity and investment, followed by the Northern Cape and Free State.

Nersa also improved efficiency, cutting the average application turnaround to just 11 working days.

Since 2018, over 200 facilities have been registered, totaling R293 billion in investment.
