New budget expected as government backtracks on VAT increase

JOHANNESBURG - A whole new budget will have to be tabled, after the 0.5% VAT increase was reversed.

The Finance Minister decided to not implement the VAT hike after major push back from political parties.

Political parties, some in the GNU, and some outside, are calling out the DA for claiming victory over the scrapping of the VAT hike.

It is not yet clear when the new budget will be tabled, or when the division of revenue and appropriation bills will be decided.

For now, the previous budget is being used until a new is in place.
