No stamp of approval for turnaround plan at Post Office

JOHANNESBURG - A new turnaround strategy to save the Post Office has been delivered, but not everyone is signing for it.

The plan aims to repackage SAPO as an e-commerce hub and multipurpose service centre.

But critics say this is just more junk mail.

MPs say the plan lacks any trace and tracking with no clear timelines, transparency, or urgency.

There are also concerns that bailouts and mass retrenchments have stamped out public trust.

Public confidence has already been lost in the mail, so can a turnaround be posted?

Chair of the Select Committee on Economic Development and Trade, Sonja Boshoff, said it's public funds that need to be used for the strategy.

"We are hoping that the business rescue practitioners will reach out to the private sector to see if they can get a buyout from them," she said.
