OUTA threatens court action over Joburg property rate hikes

JOHANNESBURG - Recent increases in property rates have sparked anger among City of Joburg residents.

Now, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse is calling for more transparency in property valuations.

It says the city should work with organisations like OUTA to ensure there is equity.

But if it refuses, OUTA will head to court.

"What we are appealing to the city is that they need to be absolutely transparent. Tell us what is really happening," said OUTA CEO Wayne Duvenage.

"We really need transparency now. We need the city to really work with organisations like us so that we can have fairness, transparency and make sure that the cost of living is affordable in Johannesburg, where the service delivery is declining.”
