Power cuts have businesses on edge: Report

The NEASA says although businesses are obligated to pay workers in full during power cuts, many are barely managing to do so.

JOHANNESBURG - The National Employers Association of South Africa says although businesses are obligated to pay workers in full during power cuts, many are barely managing to do so.

Neasa which has 8000 mainly small business members, says another week of power cuts will push businesses to the edge.

A recent survey by small business chamber Sakeliga says members were losing an average of about R25,000 before stage 6 power cuts kicked in.

Neasa CEO Gerhard Papenfus has urged Eskom to recall some former skilled workers to deal with maintenance issues.
