Probe into avian flu strain underway

Over 120,000 birds have been killed in an Avian flu outbreak in the Western Cape.

JOHANNESBURG - Over 120,000 birds have been killed in an Avian flu outbreak in the Western Cape.

It was detected two weeks ago in two farms in the Paardeberg area.

Animal Health director at the Agriculture Department, Mpho Maja, says the virus is extremely contagious.

"Samples have been sent to the laboratories, it spreads as easy as that," she said.
