Relief as fuel prices drop

JOHANNESBURG - Some good news for motorists as petrol and diesel prices dropped on Wednesday, giving drivers a welcome start to the month.

According to the latest data from the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Department, both grades of petrol dropped by 51 cents per litre, while diesel dropped by between 19 to 21 cents.

LPG and illuminating paraffin will also be cheaper.

This comes after a month of fluctuating global oil prices, which ranged between 58 and 68 dollars a barrel, and a stronger rand-dollar exchange rate.

These factors helped ease pressure on local fuel costs, leading to an over-recovery that allowed for the price cuts.
