DURBAN - The Rainbow Hammarsdale Plant in KwaZulu-Natal has reopened with millions of rand invested to boost production.
It's hoped the reopening of the plant will create much-needed jobs in the area, as well as lure more investment to the agriculture sector.
"Through investment in the agricultural sector we ensure that we increase our production so that food can be available to our citizens," said Thoko Didiza, Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.
"Through increased production we can also sell to other countries which then means boosting our trade opportunities."
Meanwhile, the Agro Energy Fund will be launched on Tuesday.
This is to combat issues of power cuts in the agriculture sector.
"We have been working with Eskom to look at other ways of ensuring that our agricultural sector can still remain producing despite the challenges we are having," Didiza said.
