SA hotels, resorts receiving more guest: Report

With tourists turning air conditioning on full blast to counter the sweltering heat of Cyprus, hotels are struggling with 'astronomical bills'

JOHANNESBURG - The Other Services survey by Bureau for Economic Research shows that South Africa's hotels, resorts and restaurants are receiving more guests and patrons.

The research shows that the growth is mainly due to the continued benefit from the removal of all COVID-19 restrictions.

It does highlight that the industry has yet to return to pre-lockdown.

However, the upcoming summer peak, the gradual return of business travellers and the resumption of events bode well for the industry in the short term.

The BER has flagged that higher menu prices and the lower disposable income of the sector's main tourist source markets are likely to stifle the sustainability of the sector’s recovery next year.
