SA likely to remain greylisted for some time: economist

JOHANNESBURG - A year to get off the grey list is extremely optimistic.

That's according to Stanlib chief economist Kevin Lings.

He says there is still much to be done before South Africa is removed.

A year ago, global watchdog the Financial Action Task Force added South Africa onto the list.

It was cited for failing to meet international standards on anti-money laundering and terrorism funding.

 

"The government and others are hoping that we will get off the grey list in a year's time.

"At this stage it’s a bit optimistic, a lot has to be achieved."
