JOHANNESBURG - South Africans are taking home slightly more, as the PayInc Net Salary Index rose for the sixth month in a row in September.
The average net salary reached R21 428, up 0.3 percent from August and 2.3 percent higher than a year ago, reflecting a more resilient labour market.
Analysts say 2025 is shaping up to be a good salary year, with earnings expected to rise faster than inflation, which has averaged just over 3 percent so far.
But despite the improvement, unemployment remains stubbornly high at around 33 percent, limiting how far those gains can go in boosting the economy.
