SA poultry company taking a knock due to blackouts

JOHANNESBURG - Power cuts could have an impact on food security in South Africa.

That is according to the CEO of Astral Foods, Chris Schutte.

He says the blackouts have made it difficult for Astral Foods, South Africa's largest poultry producer, to meet the demand for chicken at fast-food establishments.

In addition, the blackouts led to a direct loss of R126 million in the fiscal year that ended in September 2022.
