In 2021, the commission reached an agreement that schools abandon exclusivity deals with suppliers.

But, it seems not all schools have implemented this.

The commission has already received over 220 complaints.

Karabo Motaung said, "you know the commission from the onset was clear that it’s not interested in prosecuting schools and that's why we chose to take an advocacy route because we’re more interested in changing the behaviour in market."

"However, schools shouldn’t think the commission can't prosecute them should they continue with this behaviour."

"Parents [who] are left with no choice but to purchase from a particular provider are welcome to lodge a complaint with the commission."

"We are still taking complaints."

"These complaints can be lodged by filling out a form, a CC1 on the Competition Commission website."

"Send an email on [email protected]." "Complainants can also send us a Whatsapp message on 084 7430000 they just need to ensure they provide us with the correct email address or contact details that we can use to contact them should we need additional information."
