Table grape exports edge up from last season

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s table grape industry has recorded a strong export season, despite ongoing challenges.

The South African Table Grape Industry exported 78.3 million 4.5kg cartons, a slight increase from last season.

A record 81.25 million cartons were inspected for export, up 3 percent year-on-year.

The season, however, was hit by weather disruptions and logistical delays.

Ongoing problems at the Port of Cape Town forced exports through alternative ports, driving up costs.

Slightly fewer plantings were offset by better yields, supporting overall production.

Europe and the UK remain core markets, with new efforts to expand into Asia.

Industry leaders say future growth hinges on better logistics and broader market access.
