Trade and industry | Concern over chicken imports

JOHANNESBURG - There’s concern that a blanket ban on poultry from the entire Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, will have an impact on South African businesses and consumers.

The ban is believed to be due to a single case of Newcastle disease.

Brazil is the largest exporter of poultry globally, and between 15% to 20% of its poultry and some 50% of its turkey is produced in Rio Grande do Sul.

What impact is this having?

Logistics and Operations Director of Hume International, Roy Thomas discussed this with eNCA.
