JOHANNESBURG - A private investor is being sought to boost the performance of Cape Town Port.
Transnet's National Ports Authority has launched a tender for a private operator to finance, operate, maintain and refurbish several terminals.
Bids close in November.
Transnet has been under pressure after the Port was declared among the worst in the world, battling congestion, equipment breakdowns and weather-related disruptions.

And it is on a drive to increase private-sector participation in ports across the country.
The successful bidder for the terminal concession will operate the facility for 25 years.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed the move, saying greater private-sector involvement is critical to improving efficiency, boosting trade and supporting economic growth.
