JOHANNESBURG - Two of South Africa’s biggest trade unions have rejected Eskom’s improved 6 percent wage increase offer.
Eskom began talks with three major unions last year and initially put 5.5 percent on the table.
The National Union of Mineworkers is now demanding 12 percent, down from its original 15 percent.

Eskom is negotiating a new multiwage agreement, after a 2023 deal raised salaries for non-staff by 7 percent a year.
According to Eskom’s 2025 annual report, the utility spent an average of over R1-million per employee, up 12.4 percent from the previous year.
The rise was driven by the 7 percent salary adjustment and the reinstatement of short performance bonuses.
