JOHANNESBURG - The United States and China are planning to hold talks on AI for the first time in years.
Reports say discussions are set for September, ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States.
Talks are expected to focus on the risks of increasingly powerful AI systems and how the world’s two largest economies should regulate the technology.
The talks follow agreements from the Trump-Xi summit in May.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is expected to lead the US delegation.
Officials from both countries have yet to confirm the meeting.
