JOHANNESBURG - Two of the country's biggest companies, Vodacom and Shoprite, say they have taken a huge hit from Eskom's power cuts.
Releasing its interim results, Vodacom said it spent R2-billion on batteries over the last two years.
The good news is that data traffic increased by more than 30-percent compared to the company's first half last year.
However, Vodacoms' profits saw a nine-percent drop as the start-up costs in launching mobile services in Ethiopia weighed heavy on the bottom line.
CEO Shameel Joosub says it is in talks with Eskom on supplying renewable energy.
