CAPE TOWN - South African mining companies have cut almost 7,000 jobs in the second quarter.
The industry has undergone restructurings and retrenchments over the past year, due to an increase in production input costs, lower platinum group metals prices and logistical challenges.

The total employment in the mining sector is 472,000 at the end of June, down by 1.5% from the midpoint of 2023.
