World Bank predicts 1.3% growth for SA in 2025

JOHANNESBURG - A prediction for South Africa’s growth rate for last year is looking rosy.

The World Bank expects it to have grown by 1.3 percent in 2025.

Some experts have questioned if the country will even hit the 1 percent mark.

The final figure will only be calculated when GDP data for the fourth quarter of 2025 is released in March.

The economy grew by significantly less than one percent in 2023 and 2024 so the trajectory is positive.

The Bank attributes this to better electricity supply, a strong performance by agriculture, better business confidence and higher than expected prices for gold and platinum.

While the trend is upwards, South Africa still lags behind global growth, as it has done since around 2010.

The World Bank expects the world economy to grow by 2.6 percent this year.
