Zimbabwe faces cash shortages

Ordinary Zimbabweans especially street vendors say the cash shortages have affected them a lot as it is difficult to trade in foreign currency.

HARARE - Ordinary Zimbabweans especially street vendors say the cash shortages have affected them a lot as it is difficult to trade in foreign currency.

Some parents say it is now difficult to pay school fees as most government schools are demanding the payment of fees in Zim Dollars which are just not available.

Economists believe the situation will soon improve and that government will soon start releasing more Zimbabwe dollars as elections and the agriculture season approaches.

The central bank and government have remained mum on the shortages of Zim-dollar notes but independent newspaper, Newsday reports that authorities have intentionally stopped injecting money into the economy as a way to arrest hyperinflation.

The current year-on-year inflation is 285 percent for August.
