Eskom and City of Ekuruleni reach agreement over electricity debt

JOHANNESBURG - Eskom and the City of Ekurhuleni have reached an agreement to resolve the metro’s outstanding electricity debt.

The city has already paid half of the R3.4-billion owed.

The remaining balance is set to be paid over 18 months.

Both parties say the agreement will be made an order of court, bringing an end to litigation over bulk electricity supply.

Residents and businesses face no immediate risk of disconnection, provided the payment plan is followed.
