JOHANNESBURG - South Africa could curb illegal artisanal mining by regulating the industry.
That's the view of Mining and Extractives Project Manager at Action Aid South Africa, Sifiso Dladla.
He says it's about time Parliament implemented legislation.
This follows the deaths of 17 people in the Angelo Informal Settlement in Boksburg this week due to a gas leak.
It's suspected the leak is linked to illegal mining in the area.
"We need Parliament to be able to formulate a piece of legislation," he said.
