Injectable HIV prevention drug doing well in the testing stages

CAPE TOWN - South Africa has over seven million people living with HIV/Aids. Now new infections could become a thing of the past - with news of a groundbreaking injection that could prevent contracting the virus.

The injection is currently in its trial phase and has shown promising results.

Researchers say so far it is showing signs of being a lot more effective than the oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)

Professor Linda-Gail Bekker, CEO at the Desmond Tutu Health Foundation says the approval of this drug is a major breakthrough in winning the fight against new HIV infections.
