JOHANNESBURG - The State Theatre Council has paid tribute to veteran actor Seputla Sebogodi, saying he leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his performances.
Family, friends and fans are gathering in Johannesburg to remember Sebogodi.
He died last week following complications related to diabetes.
They say Sebogodi inspired younger actors and brought honesty and dignity to every role he played.
The State Theatre Council described Sebogodi as a mentor who believed in lifting others as he climbed.
Chairperson Lenore Goss-Matjie said Sebogodi had a unique ability to make young actors feel valued, encouraging and challenging them to grow into the best versions of themselves.

She said Sebogodi understood that true greatness is measured not by individual success, but by the number of people inspired along the way.
"He made younger actors feel seen and heard. He encouraged them. He challenged them to become better. He understood that greatness is not measured by how brightly one shines alone, but by how many others one inspires to shine. That is true leadership," Goss-Matjie said.
She added that rather than seeking applause, Sebogodi performed to move people, bringing honesty, dignity and authenticity to every role.
"Whether audiences encountered him on the stage, on the television, or in film, they recognised something rare. They recognised truth. He never, ever performed for applause. He performed to move people. He gave every character dignity. He gave every story honesty. He gave every audience something to remember," she added.
