JOHANNESBURG - Quality assurance Umalusi visited primary schools in various provinces to donate books and talk about the importance of reading.
This to commemorate International Nelson Mandela Day.
A recent study by the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study, that revealed that over 80-percent of grade four pupils in South Africa cannot read for meaning.
Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi said, "Umalusi's 16 ambassadors criss crossed the country to visit primary schools in honor of Nelson Mandela..."
"During that visit we met a total of 2,780 learners and we addressed with them the importance of reading."
