Climate Change | Women in STEMM make life changing Antarctic journey

JOHANNESBURG - The largest all-women voyage ever to Antarctica has returned.

Last month, the 19-day voyage saw 118 female scientists battling 200 kilometre per hour winds, and witnessing an ice avalanche crashing down just a few hundred metres from their ship.

The journey was designed to expand their leadership and strategic capabilities, while collaborating on driving the sustainability of the planet.

Dr Gina Ziervogel, director of the African Climate and Development Initiative at UCT, says the trip was beyond her wildest expectations.
