JOHANNESBURG - The High Court in Johannesburg has ruled that Lammie, Ramadiba and Mopane can remain at the Johannesburg Zoo under an extended permit.
Animal Law Reform and the EMS Foundation had sought to have the elephants removed and relocated to a sanctuary. However, their application was dismissed.
They argued that the elephants were housed in conditions that neglected their physical, emotional and social needs.
Joburg City Parks and Zoo says that they have caregivers and a veterinary team that closely monitor the elephants, and they are doing well.
