JOHANNESBURG - Music legend Babsy Mlangeni has died at the age of 83.
For more than five decades, Mlangeni used music to tell the story of South Africa, singing about love, life and the times he lived through.
His memorable songs included Bua Nnete, Sala Emma Botsotso and Umadlembathini, becoming part of the soundtrack of generations.
Blind since childhood, Mlangeni found his voice through music. As a guitarist, composer, songwriter and singer, he built a remarkable career that spanned decades.
His contribution to South African music was recognised repeatedly.
In 2017, he received a South African Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2025, he was once again honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Arts and Culture Awards.
