JOHANNESBURG – Showmax will stop accepting new subscribers on 31 March and shut down its streaming service on 30 April, MultiChoice said in an email sent to subscribers on Thursday.
Canal+, which recently acquired MultiChoice announced the closure of Showmax earlier this month.
The French broadcaster said it wanted to focus on financial discipline and investment optimisation.
It said substantial annual losses experienced by the Showmax business had proved unsustainable.
In the latest communiqué to its customers, MultiChoice said Showmax originals and other select content will now be moved to the Dstv stream. Subscribers have until 31 March to renew their subscriptions or redeem vouchers.
By 1 April, the satellite television company said new subscriptions and renewals will no longer be accepted.
Canal + previously said the decision to discontinue Showmax services will not involve any retrenchments.
