Trio on mission to save historic Wylde Bridge

NELSON MANDELA BAY - Three feisty women are on a mission to rescue the crumbling, 144-year-old Wylde Bridge in the Eastern Cape.

Armed with nothing but grit and their dogs, they’re urging the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to fix the historic span, now barely holding together with makeshift repairs.

They’ve taken matters into their own hands, physically blocking heavy trucks from rumbling across the bridge.

The trio has also petitioned the municipality to enforce the weight limit and repair the ageing structure.

The municipality has agreed to meet with them and introduce the engineers and contractors handling the project.
