Vita Longa
English poem by: Christine Coates
Theme: Love
Still with you
almost half a century since,
witnesses now gone, our kisses worn.
Here at the fire, gathered safely, or
perhaps we’re gathering safety.
Beneath our love, scents of those times,
the smell of your shaving lotion,
new books and old, long-playing records,
lamb chops on the braai.
Staring at the flames, the coals glowing,
you asked me what I wanted.
The wors was still raw but I remember
the strains of a violin. It was there
in the flames, dancing.
