JOHANNESBURG - Capes, controllers, and comic books at the ready: it’s nerd nirvana season.
The fourth edition of Comic Con is rolling out at Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec, levelling up the city’s cool factor.
Thousands of superfans are assembling for four epic days of gaming, cosplay, and geeking out over all things fandom.
But for many, it’s more than just donning a cape or mask, it’s a full-blown celebration of the stories, characters, and quirky communities that make their worlds spin.
One gamer all dressed up said: " Spider Punk is an icon for, I wanna say rebellion, but that sounds bad. But in this day and age, I think we need some rebellion for everything that's going on in the world, and I think it's a good idea to get that out there. “
Another said: "Well, it was inspired by one time when I was with my fiance, and he was, like, very sick, and we watched this anime together, and it's called Spirited Away. And this character, I just fell in love with this character of how goofy he was and everything "
Others decided to dress up like characters from horror movies.
"Me and my friends usually cosplay every time we come here. So this year we decided on horror movies. So that's why I'm Terrifier. It's a game called Call of Duty.I dressed up as Ghost. I've always liked this player, so I decided to go as him."
