eMedia channels to remain on DStv for now

JOHANNESBURG - eMedia channels Etv Extra, eToonz, eMovies and eMovies Extra will stay on DStv, for now.

The Competition Tribunal has ruled in favour of eMedia.

It's granted an application to extend an interim relief order against MultiChoice.

The four eMedia channels were acquired, marketed and distributed by Multichoice on DStv in 2017.

That agreement ended in March 2022 after MultiChoice decided not to renew, citing commercial reasons.

eMedia argued that MultiChoice's refusal to continue carrying the channels amounted to an abuse of dominance, and was in contravention of the Competition Act.

The hearing of the dispute is to take place in August.
