Greater focus on small towns and villages – SA Tourism

JOHANNESBURG - South Africa's tourism conference has wrapped up and the message and direction are clear.

There will be greater attention paid to small towns, villages and dorpies that make the country beautiful.

To achieve this, SA Tourism interim CEO Sechaba Motsieloa said partnerships between SA Tourism and municipalities need to be strengthened.

"We are working with municipalities to improve infrastructure. The ability to allow people to visit the less visited provinces is going to be critical because there is quite a lot that is still there to offer.

“Also, remember that with the tourists coming into the country, we are a faraway destination.

“So, when we are here, we want them to stay a bit longer so that they can visit the different parts. You will see in those small villages, townships, as well as small dorpies. When we have people staying a little bit longer, talking a little bit more about the country, it does help quite a lot to ensure that the messaging and the experiences are shed quite evenly."
