Cape Town – Cape Town motorists who frequent the city centre will have to find alternative routes on Thursday ahead of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address.
The City’s Traffic Services says road closures will be in place in the lead up, during and after the event.
SONA will once again take place at the City Hall as the refurbishment and construction of the Parliament building continues.

Traffic flow in and around the CBD will be affected by road closures before, during and after the event.
“Some of these closures will be in place from the 7 February until 28 February 2026. Available parking space in some areas will also be affected. Although signage will be installed in the affected areas, motorists are requested to please familiarise themselves with the list of road closures and plan their routes accordingly,” the City said.
Here are road closures:
Darling street between Buitenkant and Tenant Street 17:45 – 19:30.
Darling Street between Plein Street and Buitenkant Street from 04:00 - 23:59 and again from 09:00 to 23:45 from Friday.
Corporation Street between Caledon Street and Darling Street, Longmarket Street between Plein Street and Buitenkant Street and Parade Street between Caledon Street and Darling Street from 00:00 until 23:45 on Thursday. It will be closed again from 13 to 26 February from 09:00 to 23:45
Plein Street / Lower Plein Street between Roeland Street and Castle Street will be closed from 00:00 until 23:45. It will be closed again from 13 to 26 February from 09:00 to 23:45
Roeland Street: between Buitenkant and Brandweer Street Commercial Street between Nieumeester Parking and Plein Street and Commercial Street: between Plein and Buitenkant Street becomes bi-directional from 04:00 – 23:45. It will be closed again from 13 to 26 February from 09:00 to 23:45
Buitenkant Street: between Roeland and Darling Street 17:45 – 19:30.
Darling street between Buitenkant and Adderley Street, Darling Street between Buitenkant and Tenant Street, Sir Lowry Road between Tenant and Darling Streets will be close from 00h00 and 12h00 until 23:45, respectively.
Klipper Rd: Main Rd (M4) to Newlands Ave, Princess Anne Ave: Newlands Ave to Union Ave, Newlands Ave: Dean St to Princess Anne Ave, Dean St westbound: Main Rd (M4) to Newlands Ave, Woolsack Drive, Rondebosch, westbound: between Main Road (M4) and Rhodes Drive (M3), Anzio Road, Observatory: from MainRoad (M4) to Philip Kgosana Drive (M3), the N2 Settlers Way City-bound carriageway, from Main Road (M4) to City Centre M3, Union Avenue, Rhodes Drive, Philip Kgosana Drive (De Waal Drive), Roeland Street, City Bound Carriageway: from Newlands Avenue to City Centre will all be closed from 17:45 - 19:30 for 35 minutes.
