PAARL - Heidi van der Merwe is on a mission: defy the odds and inspire a continent.
On Saturday, the liver cancer survivor fired up her Harley Davidson in Paarl, kicking off an epic ride across Africa to raise awareness about the disease she’s battled for 23 years.
Diagnosed while pregnant, Van der Merwe is the only known survivor of her kind, and the world’s second-longest liver cancer survivor.
