MPs reflect on FW de Klerk’s historic 1990 unbanning speech

CAPE TOWN - Members of Parliament have mixed views on late former President FW de Klerk’s 1990 unbanning speech.

Some say it was a big leap forward in South Africa’s transition from apartheid to constitutional democracy.

But others say the country’s progress should have been far greater then where we are now.

Monday marked exactly 36 years since De Klerks’ Opening of Parliament Speech,
where the National Party leader announced reforms that included the unbanning of anti-apartheid organisations.

Nearly 40 years later, eNCA reporter Kevin Brandt speaks to some Members of Parliament to reflect on this key moment in South Africa's history.
