JOHANNESBURG - Matric pupil and author Naledi Setzin believes initiatives that turn reading into an engaging experience can help spark a love for books among children.
Concerns are growing over declining literacy levels among young people.
Setzin has published two books.
"Storytelling is still very active and loved through film, television, social media, radio and I guess, journalism. But I think we should try to promote and encourage reading and make reading fun and exciting again.
“An initiative I work with is a make reading for fun at the Nelson Mandela Foundation and being able to volunteer there, help and read my book, Jacaranda Tree.
“I saw how young kids enjoyed literature. They enjoyed reading books. They found it exciting because we made it an exciting event. So I think we need to bring the spark back into reading because reading is beautiful,’ Setzin said.
