Nyanga’s giant cereal bowl rolls into viral fame

CAPE TOWN - If you are a Cape Town resident who spends any time online, you have likely seen the viral, chaotic journey of a massive, rogue Kellogg’s cereal bowl rolling through the streets of Nyanga.

For 14 years, the giant advertising dish sat securely on top of a shipping container next to the Nyanga police station.

However, severe weather last month dislodged the bowl, sending it tumbling into the streets where residents began pushing and rolling it through the neighborhood.

The bowl has since been returned to its rightful owner, local entrepreneur Bonelwa Booi.

Videos of it being pushed around the streets day and night quickly went viral.

Memes quickly followed, with people photoshopping themselves right into the giant bowl and for its long-time owner, the viral explosion was way bigger than anything she ever expected.

Now that the bowl is finally back, Booi is ready to let Kellogg's take it off her hands so she can focus on running her salon.

For anyone who got to see it up close, the viral trend brought pure joy and non-stop laughter to the community.

eNCA approached the cereal company but they declined to comment.

Booi said the company has not made any promises that she can announce for now, but they are in touch.

eNCA's Nobesuthu Hejana shares more details in the video above.
