SA’s life expectancy in decline

JOHANNESBURG - A recent study has painted a rather gloomy picture of life expectancy in South Africa.

It's dropped from an average 68 years to 66.

This is in contrast to elsewhere in the world, where the Lancet Global Burden of Disease study found life expectancy has increased.

Charles Wiysonge, Professor of Global Health at Stellenbosch University, said the choices we make about our diets are contributing to the figure.
