WATCH | Cosmic Discovery | Collaboration unveils new galaxies

CAPE TOWN - Astronomers say the discovery of 49 new galaxies promises to reshape mankind’s understanding of the cosmos.

A collaboration between international astronomers, including a University of the Western Cape researcher, brought these galaxies to light.

The scientists used data collected by the MeerKAT radio telescope, located outside Carnarvon in the Northern Cape, to make the unexpected discovery.
