JOHANNESBURG - Teenage pregnancy is an all-too-familiar reality in this society.
Wendy Figlan knows this journey very well, so well in fact, that she has written a book on it
Her book, The Beauty and Battle of a Single Mom, gives an honest and unfiltered look at what it means to raise a child alone.

Speaking to eNCA, Figlan said the book is deeply personal
“This is my story, my memoir, and things I experienced. In this book, I define single mom, a person that is raising a child on her own with minimal support” she says.
Figlan reveals that she too did not know her father let alone ever met him.
This saw her being raised by a single mother.
“I was raised by a single mom, and now history is repeating itself. I’m raising a boy child, and I don’t have any point of reference because there was no strong arm or deep voice to call me ‘my little princess’. My child is going through the same thing.”
"In this book i talk about how I now raise a boy into being a men if i don't have a point of reference. These are the challenges and emotional battles i had to go through as well," Figlan adds.
