Matlala denies drug ring ties

PRETORIA - Money bags, the drug trade, and claims of cellphone evidence tampering dominated testimony at Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee in Pretoria.

Alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala testified for a second day at Kgoši Mampuru Correctional Centre.

He’s reiterated claims that he made monetary payments to former Police Minister Bheki Cele.

Matlala, named as one of the alleged “Big Five,” told MPs that Cele once demanded R1-million, but he dug in his heels, paying only half.

Matlala denies any links to a drug cartel and insists he did not manipulate the process that landed him the R360-million SAPS health services tender.
