In eThekwini, MK is polling at 48%, followed by the DA on 25,2%. The ANC figures mirror its 2024 electoral meltdown, with the IFP the only other party above the 5% support level in KwaZulu Natal’s only metro.
The nation’s capital, based in the Tshwane metro, produced a completely different polling result, with the DA on 33,9% and the ANC on 24,3%. Supporters of the EFF, Action SA and the Freedom Front Plus will take heart from their relatively strong polling results in Tshwane.
Tshwane mayor Nasiphi Moya has clearly impressed voters – she is more than twice as popular as Action SA, the party which she represents. All other Tshwane mayoral candidates poll lower than their respective political parties.
In both eThekwini and Tshwane, respondents blame the ANC for service delivery issues, with water being a major issue in both metros, and the poor response to flood damage crippling the ANC in eThekwini.
In both metros, ANC candidates are also handicapped by their party’s inability to decide on mayoral candidates.
