JOHANNESBURG - The Northern Cape, North West, and Free State are expected to have a cold and wet weekend.
The South African Weather Service has issued an Orange Level 6 and 4 warning for these areas.
Strong damaging winds and heavy rains that could trigger localised flooding have been forecast.
The Weather Service's Tokelo Chiloane says those in the interior of the country should also be worried.
"Particularly with their previous rainfall, which has been observed in the previous week," she says.
The areas will be expecting about 90 millimetres of rain over the next 24 hours.
"This is a significant amount of rainfall, and we are urging the public to take precautions," she adds.
Very cold temperatures are also expected, with the North West and Northern Cape expected to be the worst-affected areas with heavy rains and damaging winds.
While South Africans might think winter has already started due to the temperature change, South Africa is still, meteorologically speaking, in autumn.
