KUGOMPO - Authorities in the Amathole District Municipality are on high alert following heavy rainfall in the area.
Motorists moving in and around the area are called to be more vigilant on the roads. There have, so far, been 12 fatalities on the roads in the Eastern Cape following the rainy weather.
The South African Weather Service has issued an Orange Level 6 warning for heavy rain and disruptive snow in parts of the province.

"We will continue to monitor the situation," said Amathole spokesperson Sisa Msiwa.
"We are yet to receive reports of flooding in communities, but our disaster management teams will continue to provide updates," she said.
Authorities say they do their best to warn the public when weather warnings are issued, but it's ultimately up to those affected to heed the calls.
