Bad weather disrupts voting at KZN voting stations

MZUMBE - Adverse weather conditions have disrupted voting at several stations in KwaZulu-Natal, with two voting stations in Mzumbe municipality remaining closed.

The disruptions have affected voting stations in the Ndwedwe, Mzumbe and Ulundi municipalities.

This was confirmed by the province’s Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) electoral officer, Ntombifuthi Masinga, during a media briefing on Wednesday.

Masinga said two voting stations in Mzumbe remained closed due to inaccessible roads damaged by heavy rains.

“This is due to the challenges encountered with the road that is not accessible in some of the voting stations in Mzumbe municipality because of the damage that was experienced in that part of the province due to the rains,” she said.

The disruptions come amid weather warnings for parts of the country.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) had forecast partly cloudy and warm conditions over the eastern parts of the country on Wednesday, with possible afternoon thunderstorms over Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Gauteng and the eastern parts of the North West.
